Steel Tormentor are a traditional Heavy Metal band based in the wilds of north Mayo on the west coast of Ireland. They were formed in 1996 by guitarist and vocalist James Kelly as a studio project. Unlike many of today's bands who have their songs on the internet half an hour after forming, Steel Tormentor did things the way bands used to - treading the boards of live venues and honing their craft for eight hard years in the Metal wilderness while they penned the songs that would appear on 2004's debut album 'Unleashed' (James produced the album himself in his home studio).

'Unleashed' was immensely well received by the Metal public & critics (Metal Hammer calling it: 'defiantly Old School') and the band's new line-up hit the road to promote it. Their most notable gigs during the period 2004-2007 were on their UK tour (including an appearance at Bloodstock Festival), the Up The Hammers festival in Greece, and support slots with Battleroar, Twisted Tower Dire, Cauldron & the mighty Saxon.

In August 2008, with new band members on board, ST travelled to Remasters studio in Italy to begin work on the long awaited new album: 'Return of a King.'

Recognising that they had something special in their hands, and determined that the new album would be the biggest step forward from the debut possible, Steel Tormentor spent months working on perfecting 'Return of a King' which remained unfinished for well over a year until December 2009 when they drafted in German producer Lasse Lammert to complete the final touches.

'Return of a King' heralds just that - the return of traditional Metal of the highest standard. The album is due for release in early 2010.
