Ancient Ascendant are a new breed of Death Metal band, combining old school sensibilities with melody and hooks which are often lacking in this brutal genre.

Formed in 2005 England with the goal of creating interesting, clear and progressive death metal to headbang to, Ancient Ascendant eschew the 'image over content' approach that has become all to common amongst Death Metal bands in the 21st century - returning instead to the time-honoured tradition of making music the most important thing about a Metal band.

Taking influences from older Metal bands such as Death, Carcass and Pantera and fusing them with the modern sounds of bands like Opeth and Decapitated, they achieve a remarkable blend of extreme heaviness with instant recognisability which appeals across the many different genres of Metal fans.

Following the initial 1-track promo CD, 'The Path to Heaven,' the band embarked on four years of intensive work, constantly gigging across the country and continually pushing the boundaries of their sound. The result of this is their EP, 'The Heathen Throne.'

2010 will see the band back out on the road, and they are also currently working a full length album.
